Accessibility at Clean Finish Electrical.

What I am aiming for

I want anyone who needs an electrician to be able to use this site and reach me. The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and the site was checked against them page by page rather than assumed to pass.

What is built in

  • Every page has proper landmarks and headings, so a screen reader can move through it by section instead of reading from the top each time.
  • A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content, and on pages with the quote form there is a second one straight to it.
  • Everything you can click, you can also reach and operate with the keyboard alone, in the order it appears on the page. That includes the questions that open and close, the call and text buttons, and the bar that follows you down the page on a phone.
  • Whatever the keyboard is on is outlined clearly, in a color chosen to stand out against both the dark sections and the cream ones.
  • Text and background colors were measured, not eyeballed. Body text clears 4.5 to 1, large headings and the outlines around controls clear 3 to 1.
  • Every work photo carries a text description of the job it shows, and the decorative marks are hidden from screen readers so they do not read as noise.
  • The quote form has a real label on every field, says in words which three are required rather than marking them with color or a star alone, and tells you what file types a photo can be. When you send it, the answer is a status message that takes focus, so you hear it instead of being dropped back at the top of the page.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the site stops moving: no sliding scroll, no hover animation.
  • The page reflows to a phone screen and to 200 percent text size without anything being cut off or covered.
  • There are no third-party scripts, no trackers, no cookie banner, and no pop-ups to dismiss.
  • Nothing on this site runs JavaScript. The only script tag is a block of business facts for search engines, so nothing you see or do here depends on a script working.

In person

I am ASL proficient. If you are Deaf or hard of hearing, you can sign with me directly on the job, and we can sort out the work without an interpreter in the middle. Text is also a perfectly good way to book me, and for a lot of customers it is the fastest one.

Where it still falls short

  • The text description on a work photo names the job, not every detail in the frame. It tells you what you are looking at; it does not describe the picture the way a longer caption would.
  • The reviews on this site are quoted from Yelp and Google, and the links to read more go to their sites. Those pages are theirs, not mine, and I cannot fix how they behave.
  • The site has been tested with the keyboard, with automated checks, at phone width, and at 200 percent zoom. It has not been tested with every screen reader and every browser combination that exists.

Tell me if something is not working

If any part of this site gets in your way, tell me and I will fix it or get you the information another way. That is not a form letter: it is a one-person business, and the person who reads the message is the person who can change the page.

Text or call me at (949) 357-6448, or email cleanfinishelectrical@gmail.com. Tell me the page and what happened, and if it helps, what you were using to read it.
